On January 25th, The screaming Eagles went up against Quincy University. This event took place on Saturday at the Eagles arena. Usi has been on a roll winning 4 straight games as their record progressed to 13-4. Meanwhile Quincy University’s record is not as promising as USI. Although, their basketball team is very competitive and strong willed. Both teams fought long and hard however; Usi’s Men’s basketball team took control of the game from the very beginning. In the first quarter Usi was trailing Quincy, but eventually Usi took off with a major 16-4 run. After that run they never let their foot off the peddle. At the end of the half they built a 46-27 lead. Mateo Rivers led the Usi men’s basketball team to victory as he began a hot start with 12 points in the first 20 minutes of the game. His field goal percentage was 90% shooting five for six and two for three at the three point range.
As the second half transpired; Usi did not let up on Quincy University. As the remained in the lead throughout the whole game. Fans in the crowd were ecstatic to know that they’re teams is going to win yet another game making it a five game winning streak, also their record now remains at 14-4. Not only did we’re the screaming eagles proficient at their field goal percentage; but they were dominant in the paint as well. Making it hard for the opposing team to grab rebounds and protect the basket as well. As the game started to come to a close, the Usi basketball team won against Quincy University as they lead the team by seventeen points. Since last year I have seen the growth in the Usi men’s basketball team. Last year they were unstoppable, but I believe this year they will make a statement that shows the fans just how hard they have been working. In fact I believe that this team has what it takes to win a championship.
